Abstract art is defined as art that has no reference to any figurative reality. In its wider definition the term describes art that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way – keeping only an allusion of the original natural subject.

I’ve recently developed a real love for abstracts. Actually, I’ve always loved them but I wasn’t so good at making my own. As a Bryce user, there are many people who make these elaborate symmetrical designs and I appreciate them, but I do get rather tired seeing the same kind all the time.
As I mentioned before I totally love asymmetrical abstracts with pleasing colors. So it was a real pleasure to visit Barb’s post: Life’s Small Textures and see those gorgeous paintings! Inspires me to want to try with real paint someday. A good friend of mine started painting in oils and I think he gave up Bryce completely. He’s done some fabulous work too.
Here’s another of mine. Maybe someday I’ll give paint a try and be able to make something beautiful with that

Excellent idea, Viki! I love abstracts too–the ones filled with visual textures and good composition. Until I saw Pat Dew’s book and video I didn’t realize it was something I could do. There are many abstracts out there that don’t appeal to me.
Is this one a Bryce creation then Anita? It looks almost as if it came from a fractal algorithm. (I have no idea how to do them, but I’ve seen some gorgeous work online.) This one’s a beauty — much to see as I continue to look.
I agree with Kandinsky completely. It IS difficult to do without mental poetry. And so often viewers want to assign meaning — me included. I have be be aware of that tendency, so I don’t do it. A beautiful abstract is just to enjoy without labeling.

Having working in many mediums before doing now mostly digital creations, I find them all interesting and enjoyable and all a different and enriching experience. If you haven’t tried live painting yet, for sure do it. Although we may not see you on line for a while.
I have referred to myself as a Media Don Juana because I can’t stick with just one. But now I’m in the black hole of blogging so God knows when I will be able to emerge from that to get back to hands on tactile play.
